In July 5. 2009, The terrible violent riots occurred in Urumqi, the capital of China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.It cause more than 150 people were killed, a lot of cars and stops were burned down. The cause of the riots is that two Uighurs were killed by Han in a fighting event in southern China. However, the real cause is that there always are the problems of Uighurs between Chinese Han in religion, ethnic difference and income aspects, plus, some anti-china organizations blow and support, so many Uighurs want to independen from China. Now, the situation has been under controlled by security force, but the relationship between Uighure and Han is still very intense. This riots is more horrible than last one in Lhasa, Tibet, in 2008.

If I had had a chance, I wouldn't have known this news! I think that there are 56 ethnic minorities,so China is a big family!! Moreover, in my hometown, there are mang ethnic minoritise,and I'm one of them! We are very happy to live and work togather.

Hi Derick, I'm sorry that I didn't see your post before. I can see it clearly now (perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough). That's very sad that people were killed before and during the riot. I'm glad to hear that there are other instances in China where ethnic minorities can peacefully coexist.
